Simple
The sensor measures relative motion - point
it at what you want to measure. Either the
sensor or the target may be moving - or both
simultaneously. The sensor may be used to
measure the speed of a surface such as the ground.
Accurate
Non-contact sensing means that the sensor measures
only the true relative motion of the target. For
vehicle ground speeds, wheel slip is no longer an issue.
For conveyor belts, the actual speed of product can be
measured. For amusement park rides, the support
structure can act as a target.
Wide Speed Range
The sensor measures speeds from 0.5 to 300 MPH
(0.8 to 480 KPH).
Fast Response
With an update period of 1/100th of a second and a
small time constant, the sensor is capable of tracking
objects accelerating at several g's.
Small & Portable
The sensor requires only a small DC power source (10.5 - 16.5 VDC, 2.4 W). The small size of the
sensor means that it can be mounted virtually anywhere.
Versatile Interface
The output of the sensor is a pulse with
frequency proportional to measured speed. The
sensor can interface directly with many different
types of off-the-shelf hardware, such as digital
tachometers, or can be integrated into electronic
control or data acquisition systems. The sensor
is fully compatible with the
Data BRICK data acquisition system.
